The following article covers the novel design of a linear flux modulating motor for direct-driven belt conveyors and discusses the mechanical and magnetic aspects of the motor. In the first part, a new belt design is presented, which enables the implementation of so-called runner elements. Runner elements are part of the linear flux modulating motor and transfer the generated feeding force directly into the belt. The second part describes the design of the motor itself and how optimization improves the achievable feeding force. The article closes with a discussion of the results and shows how the predicted feeding force is in line with the conducted measurements.
